Nestled in the hilly streets of the East Kessler neighborhood just south of the Trinity River in Dallas is this stone, glass and steel contemporary renovation. Situated on an extra-wide lot, this marquee property finished construction in the first half of 2020 and the owners decided to integrate a custom-designed, corner-to-corner lighting plan to add depth, texture and sophistication to the outdoor spaces.
From the street, guests are warmly welcomed with a rear-illuminated address marker and recessed step lighting that guides guests to the front entrance. Upon entering, guests are drawn to the central focal point of the home’s interior layout - a spacious kitchen with a large island and an expansive, double-height wall of windows that looks out onto the backyard.
Signature Illumination Designs added canopy lighting, moonlighting and up lighting to the trees and bushes in the backyard to create continuity and flow between the kitchen gathering space and the outdoor space behind the glass. Residents and guests of the home now feel as if they are standing inside and outside when they’re enjoying evening conversation.
Along the property lines at the rear and sides of the yard, Signature installed up lighting to bring focus and depth to the tall trees and the areas at and behind the fence. This lighting technique frames the edges of the yard and provides soft sightlines in the evenings (where there used to be only dark areas) while also adding an element of security.
Signature used moonlighting to illuminate the rich, grassy areas of the front and rear yards, and to light pathways at the front and back of the property. The fire pit, pool aprons, outdoor kitchen, and front entrance steps were kept free of any ground lighting, and instead are lit with light-emitting diode (LED) moonlights installed in the tree canopies of the property.
