Setting the Ambiance for a Historic City's Living Room

Located just south of Fort Worth, in the heart of Burleson lives the historic Old Town Square. Serving as the cultural center of the small Texas town, the Old Town Square has been a historic landmark drawing residents and visitors all over the state to take a trip back in time.

As the prominent vestige of Burleson’s town history, the iconic Old Town Square was retrofitted into the “city’s living room” with the recently developed Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza. Named in honor of the city’s first and only female mayor, the plaza will serve as a welcoming place for the community to gather in a comfortable and unique environment, embracing the history and distinct charm Burleson has to offer.

To set the ambiance for the “city’s living room,” Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors and TBG Partners expert landscape architects called on Signature Illumination Designs to create a custom lighting solution that would highlight the town’s investment and extend the hours of use of the outdoor gathering area.

Using our extensive experience and knowledge of lighting systems, we developed an economically viable lighting solution that enhances the town’s historic charm while establishing a welcoming community plaza for patrons to enjoy at all hours of the day. A distinct feature of our lighting plan was to highlight the city’s landmark, the Burleson Water Tower. To do so we installed uplights to illuminate the water tower, allowing it to serve as a beacon of light for the town.

The newly developed plaza features a variety of seating, recreational areas, and distinct landscaping. We installed lights throughout the plaza to elevate these upscale amenities while also extending the hours of use. To complement the creative living space designed by TBG Partners, we installed uplights at the base of the garden beds. At night the light adds a layer of texture and accentuates the landscape making it pop.

Moonlighting is a lighting technique we love to incorporate into our designs when viable. To establish an inviting ambiance, we installed warm lights high up in the branches of the trees surrounding the plaza. This technique resembles the natural light of the moon and casts a soft glow that delicately covers the plaza.

Serving as the Burleson’s town living room, Signature Illumination Designs was tasked with setting the ambiance for the public space. To establish gathering areas as focal points in the plaza, we installed sophisticated lighting systems complete with string lings that elegantly sway above. Hanging between the two historic trains featured in the Square, the string lights serve as a connection piece that brings ambiance and ties the space together. The lights create a soft reflection on the train windows, illuminating the history of the town while also providing visibility throughout the plaza.

Lighting not only facilitates an engaging atmosphere; it also serves as an added layer of security. With safety as a top priority, we installed path lights in the corners of the garden beds that line the walkways throughout the plaza. Our team installed cutting-edge lighting features to the paths to gently guide guests and ensure well visibility throughout.

As electrical contractors and expert lighting designers, we used our extensive experience and knowledge of cutting-edge technologies to enhance the iconic Old Town Burleson. The ambient Square provides the community with an outdoor space to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and reflect on their town’s unique history.
